A light in the dark
By Lin Pearson

When I was a child I loved to play outside with my friends.
Hop-scotch, kick-the-can, tig, marbles and all the other favourite games came and went in their seasons.
In those days we could wander safely across the fields and round the streets of the housing estate. Nevertheless, we all knew when it was time to come home. In our family there was Mum's rule: "As soon as the street lights go on, come home."

No matter how far we were away from home, once those lights were on we headed back. There was no excuse! "But Mum, my watch stopped" was no use; "I lost track of the time" was no better. The streetlights were a signal for all to see and we learned to obey it.

Sometimes, if we were many streets away from our own house, the darkness had almost completely fallen before we got in. The glow of the kitchen light was a welcome to warmth and safety, and, to this day, whenever I see the street lights go on, I recall that comforting feeling.

Perhaps there are times when you feel that you are "out in the dark" and "far away from home", spiritually speaking.
Did you know what Jesus Christ has said about Himself?
" I am the Light of the world. He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness" ( John 8:12).
The heavenly Father sent Jesus Christ to light the way home for you, so that, no matter how far you have wandered, or how dark your soul, you could come to that safe place in the family of God.
